Toronto, December 14, 2016 – Welcome to It’s All Style To Me’s newest column. Every month we’re going to be featuring a new up-and-coming fashion model that’s turning heads in the fashion scene. Our first in the series is a tall, rosy-cheeked beauty named Hannah Park. Represented by Elmer Olsen Model Management in Toronto, the Burlington native has had the rare privilege of having a single-girl, main fashion story in Fashion Magazine and many other Canadian publications. She’s also on track to make a big splash this international show season with IMG Models.
We sat down with Hannah after she just wrapped another busy full day of shooting.
It’s All Style To Me: How did you get into modelling?
Hannah Park: I went in to see Elmer after years of being told I was tall and slim and that I should try modelling. My agency very quickly helped me turn it into a career.
IASTM: How do you find modelling?
HP: I really like it, it’s a lot of fun. It’s a whole new learning experience for me. You get to learn about the fashion industry and get a chance to creatively express yourself, which is something I really like.
IASTM: What are your thoughts on the impact of social media on fashion and modelling?
HP: I think it’s huge! Years ago you would take a photo and would have to wait for it to be developed before you could see it. Now everything moves at the click of a button. Things move a lot more quickly and also change quickly. I think Instagram is especially great because you learn a lot about the model including their personality and interests. It’s almost as important as a model’s portfolio. It’s a chance to kind of get to know the model before you meet or work with them.
IASTM: Tell me about your personal style.
HP: It’s more 1990s. I prefer ripped jeans, floral prints, choker necklaces and vintage accessories. I love hand-me-downs and shopping at thrift shops.
IASTM: Any fashion designers that you’re a big fan of?
HP: I really like Comrags and Alexander Wang. I like things that are different, modern, and mainly unique.
IASTM: Any style tips that you can give to the guys out there?
HP: I’m a big sucker for leather. Plain t-shirts, jeans, combat boots and a leather jacket – I guess a typical badass style is what I’m going for here.
IASTM: What do you hate seeing on guys? We’ll assume the hipster beard is on the top of that list.
HP: [Laughs] I’m not really a sweatpants person, to be completely honest. I don’t like the look of sloppy hoodies and sweats. Even open-toed flip flops – maybe just for the beach.
IASTM: What do you have lined up for the new year?
HP: I want to explore new opportunities. I hope to travel more, learn more, shoot more, try new things. I really want to travel more.
IASTM: What’s the best part of modelling so far?
HP: The creativity! I love it when a team comes together with a vision and it comes to life.
IASTM: Besides annoying bald blogger interviews, what’s the worst thing about modelling?
HP: [Laughs] I don’t really find anything annoying…
IASTM: Until today?
HP: Noooo. [Laughs] Maybe just the long hours that can get exhausting. Long days and long shoots with people poking and prodding at you, but it’s all part of the fun.
