Toronto, August 31, 2016 – Greta Constantine’s Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong hosted their annual pool party last week, presenting us with a taste of Spring/Summer 2017. Held at the Annex residence of their longtime friends Michael Cooper and Krystal Koo, the event served both as a reflection of the duo’s first ten years in the business and a lead up to their next showing slated for early October in Paris.
Now in its seventh rendition, this summer’s intimate gathering had a Poolside Prom theme. Guests walked through a white and maroon balloon arch into the garden where a pair of well-toned, bare-torsoed men clad in Apothic Wine sashes greeted them with corsages and boutonnieres.
Models donned silk tulle overlays featuring voluminous sleeve detailings, boned bustiers, and exaggerated ruffles, atop rust-, metal-, and copper-hued slip dresses. The silk tulle pieces were in fact translated from existing silhouettes in the duo’s signature microfiber and silk wool fabrications from the Greta Constantine Spring 2017 Collection. The minimalist-maximalist tension that underlined each look, as well as the emphasis on semi-transparent fabrications, loaned a darkly romantic air as night fell and the temperature rose.
With sundown nearing, attendees were treated to an invigorating performance from the Toronto Cheer Athletics Titans. Clad in custom-made grape microfibre tanks with ruffle trim by Greta Constantine, the gaggle of girls marched out of the residence with pompoms in tow. Members of the Titans then flipped and tossed in a number of pyramid routine stunts all the while chanting a cheer marking the evening’s celebration.
