New York, May 3, 2016 – Over 120 pieces of haute couture and ready-to-wear fashion are on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s (MET) Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit. The exhibition explores the creative process and unravels how designers are reconciling the handmade with the machine-made in fashion. Galleries focus on embroidery, feather work, artificial flowers, and pleating alongside innovative processes such as 3D printing, computer modeling, and more.
Hollywood celebrities, musicians, socialites and fashion industry elite came together last night to kick off the annual fashion exhibit. Many kept with the theme, others were way off. Highlights included Emma Watson’s Calvin Klein gown made from recycled plastic bottles, a lot of tinfoil looks, Karolina Kurkova’s Marchesa dress adorned with LED lights that react to Tweets, Claire Danes and her fibre optic Zac Posen dress, and Rita Ora’s silver plumed Vera Wang gown.
A fashion gala about technology and zero wearable tech and no 3D printing. Tech and electronic company fail or what? While there were winners there were also a few losers. Check out our picks below.
