Los Angeles, November 23, 2015 – Jaguar celebrates 90 years of automotive excellence with the unveiling of two new vehicles at the LA Auto Show 2015. The 2017 Jaguar XE and F-PACE expand Jaguar’s lineup to a total of five sleek vehicles. We spent some time Los Angeles with Jaguar both at the LA Auto Show and at the Art of Performance Tour media preview. It’s impressive to see how much the brand has evolved, particularly in the last 10 years. Everything from the 100% aluminum architecture to the signature Jaguar grille have established a modern Jaguar identity that is defining British automotive design.
The Jaguar F-PACE is the company’s first production medium-sized sports SUV designed to offer agility, responsiveness and refinement. Building on the breakthrough C-X17 concept that debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, the F-PACE incorporates many style elements from our beloved F-TYPE. From the design of the LED tail-lights to the muscular rear haunches, you can see the F-TYPE inspiration. The SUV also incorporates the F-TYPE’s torque vectoring braking, adaptive dynamics and gasoline engines.
As a five-seater, the F-TYPE offers a spacious, luxurious interior utilizing premium materials and finishing. With 14 different adjustments plus heating and cooling functions, the leather sports seats provide exceptional comfort and support. Not much to differentiate the control panel as its similar to what you would find in the XE and XF with their signature Jaguar InControl® Touch™ infotainment system as standard in conjunction with a Meridian® 17-speaker, 825W surround sound system which delivers ideal sound reproduction with benchmark low levels of distortion.
“We designed the all-new F-PACE to be first and foremost a Jaguar. That’s why it has exciting proportions, a dynamic stance, pure surfaces and a beautiful sensuality about it. Its progressive, purposeful appearance has clearly been influenced by the F-TYPE. Every Jaguar car should draw your eye from 200 metres away and I believe the presence of the all-new F-PACE on the road is second to none in this class. The Lightweight Aluminum Architecture gave us the design freedom to create a car with latent poise – a svelte car with attitude. It looks assertive yet not aggressive. But it’s also versatile and equipped with real-world answers to everyday questions. The all-new F-PACE is an all-weather Jaguar sports car, life-proofed for five people and their belongings.” – Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar.
Performance-wise the F-PACE comes in a 3.0L 340hp or the F-PACE S option at 380hp, both with a supercharged V6 engine (same as the F-TYPE). The latter able to launch the SUV from 0-60mph in only 5.5 seconds with an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
The all-new F-PACE range will consist of: F-PACE Premium, F-PACE Prestige, F-PACE R-Sport, FPACE S and F-PACE First Edition. The powertrain range will consist of a 180hp 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel as well as the 340hp and 380hp 3.0-litre V6 gas variants priced from $40,990 ($49,900 CAD), $42,390 ($53,900 CAD) and $56,700 ($66,400 CAD) respectively.
Also on deck in LA was the exciting new 2017 Jaguar XE. This luxury sports sedan first debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and following a limited global release will be available in North American markets. Media were invited to Hollywood’s Raleigh Studios ahead of the 2015 LA Auto Show timed in conjunction with the kick-off of Jaguar’s Art of Performance Tour: Lights. Camera. Drive! – a seven-city American tour, which invites consumers to see the full 2016/2017 Jaguar line-up, including the F-PACE, and be among the first to drive the XE six months before it goes on sale in mid-2016.
“The Jaguar brand has an unprecedented opportunity to make a bigger impact in the U.S. market with a new expanded line-up, more competitive pricing and the EliteCare Ownership Package (US only). The Jaguar XE is at the heart of this next generation of Jaguar and will be bringing an influx of new younger customers into the brand. The Art of Performance Tour will give customers across the U.S. a chance to see the entire new line-up, including the F-PACE and experience the Jaguar XE by taking the traditional test drive model and updating it for the digital era.” – Kim McCullough, Vice President of Marketing, Jaguar Land Rover, North America, LLC.
The aluminum-intensive Jaguar XE was the first global model developed from the new JLR modular vehicle architecture; underpinning the XE, this platform is also shared with the new XF mid-size sedan and F-PACE. Key design highlights include short front and rear overhangs, a dynamic cab-rearward stance, 20″ forged alloy wheels, long wheelbase and a low, sporty driving position in a sleek, coupe-like profile. Outside, the strongly-sculpted hood creates a taut, muscular appearance. The rising waistline adds to the sense of movement, while the form of the rear quarters takes inspiration from the F-TYPE Coupe. The signature J-Blade daytime running lights are a recognizable Jaguar design element, while the rear lights feature a horizontal line intersecting a circle; a powerful styling feature inherited from the iconic E-Type.
“Our mission was to create an exciting and dynamic design clearly reflecting the XE positioning as a serious driver’s car. The cab-rearward proportions and tight packaging achieve that and give the XE the appearance of movement even when it is standing still. It bears a strong family resemblance to the F-TYPE and will stand apart in the crowd.” – Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design.
It may sound cliché, but the XE really is a game changer for Jaguar. That’s because as of next year, you’ll be able to nab a stylish British sports sedan for under $50,000. The XE will come in three models: 2.0L turbocharged I-4, 240hp XE 25t $34,900 (n/a in Canada), 2.0L turbocharged I-4 diesel, 180hp XE 20d $36,400 ($45,000 CAD) and 3.0L supercharged V6, 340hp XE 35t $41,700 ($48,500 CAD).
