Los Angeles, November 21, 2015 – Land Rover unveiled their exciting new 2017 Range Rover Evoque Convertible at the 2015 LA Auto Show last week. With its sleek fun design, it’s sure to be one of the most talked about vehicles of the show. Set to go on sale in Spring 2016, the Evoque Convertible will be produced at the Land Rover Halewood, UK plant and will start at $50,475 ($67,385 CAD). With the release of the Evoque Convertible, Land Rover is taking advantage of a hot crossover/small SUV vehicle market and building on the success of over 450,000 Evoques already sold since their introduction in 2011.
The brand has built on its massive marketing success with placement in the latest James Bond films Skyfall and SPECTRE, by featuring a beautiful bikini-clad Naomie Harris (Moneypenny) in a sunny Santa Monica photo shoot (see below). No complaints here.
“I was so impressed by the design of this car; it’s like nothing I’ve seen on the road before and is so sleek! I love the fact that it is just as much at home driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in LA, as it is off-road in the British Countryside,” said Harris.
We had a chance to join Land Rover, ahead of the LA Auto Show, as they invited select media to preview the Evoque Convertible at West Hollywood’s Le Zinqué. While this is not the first convertible SUV ever made, it’s certainly the most luxurious and most impressive.
The Evoque Convertible features a sophisticated fast-folding roof that lowers unjust 18 seconds (up in 21 seconds) and can be raised/lowered while driving at speeds of up to 30mph (48km/hr). The roof folds away flush and neatly while all four windows lower leaving a head-turning clean silhouette. You would think that the folded roof would eliminate significant trunk space, but that’s not the case. A hefty 251-litre (8.9-cu.ft.) of luggage space offers plenty of storage space. Don’t think for a minute that Land Rover has sacrificed safety in the name of design. The Evoque Convertible is equipped with hidden roll bars that deploy within 90 milliseconds of a roll-over situation keeping driver and passengers safe.
“The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering adds another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal.” Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer
With roof closed, the interior acoustic insulation is on par with the non-convertible version. You’ll enjoy the new 10.2 inch touch-screen InControl® Touch Pro™ infotainment system, which offers smartphone integration, advanced door-to-door navigation, Wi-Fi and a premium sound system.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is underpinned by the all-terrain capability expected of all Land Rover vehicles and uses the same advanced technologies as the traditional Range Rover Evoque. The standard all-wheel drive system works with the vehicle’s 240-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, nine-speed automatic transmission, Terrain Response® system and All-Terrain Progress Control system to ensure the Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons.
At the LA Auto Show, Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer introduced the Evoque Convertible as a vehicle to be seen and to be seen in. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a definitive statement vehicle, great for those who reside in sunny beach states and east coast summer-weekend-cottage-goers as well those in the Swiss Alps. It’s all of the versatility of an SUV with the luxury of a convertible. We’re betting the girls especially will go crazy for this.
