Toronto, October 19, 2015 – As a massive Jaguar enthusiast and former Jaguar owner, it was a real thrill to spend a week in Jaguar’s luxurious new 2016 F-Type S AWD Coupe. Aside from being one of the sexiest cars I’ve ever driven, the new F-Type offers serious performance with confident handling worth bragging about. So glad to see Jaguar embracing its racing heritage and infusing many of the style elements of the legendary 1960s E-Type in this roadster.
The automatic QuickShift 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shift option means fast seamless gear changing (manual transmission also available). The F-Type’s mind-blowing power output equals 127 horsepower per litre which is managed by a sophisticated boost control ensuring the torque curve rises steeply over a broad range of engine speeds. That’s a 3.0L supercharged 350hp V6 engine that will take you from 0-100kph (0-60mph) in 5.1 seconds!
This particular F-Type came with several thousands of dollars of added goodies including a premium vision package, exterior sport design & black package, heated front windscreen, high performance break system with red brake callipers, and a set of 20″ tornado black wheels ($107,325 CAD/$82,920 USD plus taxes).
“Our target with engineering the all-wheel drive F-TYPE was to maintain that engaging rear-drive character that’s so important to Jaguar sports car DNA, and offer even greater dynamic capability. With the manual transmission option for the V6-powered F-TYPE models, we’ve gone to intricate lengths to engineer a very precise, technical and responsive level of interaction between the driver, the clutch and the transmission shift mechanism. It’s one for the driving purists – and I count myself as one of them.” – Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar
It’s impossible not to fall in love with this car’s performance and handling. The details also come together to make the F-Type a style heavyweight. Stylish design features include the deployable door handles, luxurious body-hugging sports seats, high-speed deployable rear spoiler, active sport exhaust, 20″ wheels, heated flat-bottomed, leather-covered steering wheel, and the panoramic tinted glass roof.
Driving the new F-Type S AWD is exhilarating and how about that monstrous exhaust? Jaguar’s Instinctive AWD® system, limited slip differential and sports suspension with adaptive dynamics made me feel in complete control of the vehicle in various driving conditions. Dynamic race mode optimizes performance while the snow/rain mode proves extremely reliable in brutal highway rain conditions.
With the F-Type’s gas consumption rivalling my old Jaguar XK8 convertible, the automatic Intelligent Stop/Start system is a welcomed feature. By switching off the engine when the vehicle comes to a standstill, you can improve fuel economy. It also helps to lay off the dynamic racing mode. If you can.
