Los Angeles, January 12, 2015 – Hollywood awards season is a chance for actors to shine amongst their peers. It’s also a chance for them to strut their stuff on the red carpet. Pretty cruel that it comes right after the holidays, when all of us have gained a few pounds. Ask Ricky Gervais, who found himself struggling to squeeze into his tux last night. Sadly, no luck closing that top dress shirt button. Then there are the women in transition. Some just had kids, others have them on the way. Ultimately, the right combination of a great stylist and some common sense is the difference between making headlines as the best dressed or being ridiculed to death on social media for the next week.
The Golden Globes were held last night and key red carpet trends included yellow and red dresses, shimmering silver gowns and separates, and criss-cross necklines for the women. Traditional black or midnight blue tuxedos were standard for the men. Given the recent events in Paris and yesterday’s march, political Je Suis Charlie signs, smartphone covers, accessories fit the mood.
Can’t say I was feeling the silver/metallic pieces at first, but they grew on me very quickly. Some nailed the hair and makeup, but ruined the look with their choice in dress. Others transformed themselves completely and surprised me. Most played it really safe this year with bold prints and colors at a minimum. Below are some of our most and least favorite looks from the 2015 Golden Globes.
