Paris, January 21, 2013 – New dog, same ol’ tricks. Seems that way for the menswear at
Yves Saint Laurent. Fall/Winter 2013 was hyped up to be quite promising, but despite the wild speaker carrousel, loud rock music, fancy invites, and cool indie artists on the runway – the collection fell flat. Hedi Slimane is new at the helm of the French label, yet his first menswear collection for Saint Laurent is stuck in a mid-2000s Dior Homme past. It’s grungy, it’s cool and there are some great pieces, however there’s nothing in there that we haven’t seen before. Dated, is one way to describe the latest androgynous menswear collection for SL, although that may be a tad harsh. The reality is that there’s nothing here that you can’t find for 1/8th of the price at a vintage shop or low-cost fashion boutique. Expect for maybe those really cool leather pants.
