Paris, October 2, 2012 – It’s been a while since we could rave about a Chanel collection and Spring/Summer 2013 has given us plenty of reason to. Freedom seems to be a major theme in Paris for SS13 and Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld spoke of the sun and wind as his inspiration. He’s a forward thinker this Lagerfeld and while some men and women his age scoff at modern technology longing for the way things used to be – Lagerfeld never does. He embraces new design, architecture and technology diving head first into it and his designs are better for it. His boundless energy and ability to find inspiration in the future may be responsible for his longevity as one of, if not the most, relevant designers of our time.
For SS13, the kaiser did away with the braids, the classic Chanel buttons and chains, choosing instead to focus on the juxtaposition of volume and lightness. Pearls were everywhere from necklaces to bracelets, even acting as embellishments and buttons on clothing. The highlights are too many to list with the boleros, skirt dresses and wild prints emerging as the victors. Not big on the hula hoop purse, but how incredibly Pradarrific were those shoes?
