Paris, September 30, 2012 – All eyes on Paris for the newly appointed head designer of Christian Dior, Raf Simons. Since taking the helm as head designer for Dior, this is his first collection and judging by the overall response, Spring/Summer 2013 was a success. It was a sense of freedom or better yet emancipation of a restrictive womenswear aesthetic that Mr. Christian Dior himself based his creations on. Simons looked to that same mantra in his inaugural collection. Simons, an unapologetic minimalist, sought to channel that Dior spirit and infuse freedom through sensual sexy creations.
The result, forward thinking ready-to-wear fashion for day and night. The show opened with a series of formal black tuxedo-inspired looks with black scarves in place of bow ties. Refashioned hourglass silhouettes resulted in versatile party-ready mini-gowns and a combination of neon layered and lined garments added a pop of colour to the collection. SS13 paid homage to the fashion house while injecting it with a breath of fresh forward-thinking creative sophistication. Simons is just what this label needed.
