New York, September 6, 2012 – If you think everyone is relaxing the day before Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week kicks off, think again. Day 0 and New York is buzzing with off-site Spring/Summer 2013 fashion shows and presentations. Who better to visit first than our Toronto native Laura Siegel who was showing in the Lower East Side yesterday afternoon. Siegel, who is known for ethically crafted collections designed in collaboration with artisans, found inspiration in desert for SS13.
“The collection is about life in the desert and what that means from different cultures perspectives between South America and India. Spring 13 explores the creation of textiles and man’s relationship to them and fuses techniques such as leather embossing, braiding and shibori tie-dying into effortless silhouettes,” explained Siegel.
All rather resort looking, highlights of SS13 included leather jackets and shorts with macromet fringe detailing, draped jersey dresses and ponchos in neutral greens and camel combined with neon stitching and detailing. We would definitely fancy some of these original creations in men’s iterations. Maybe next season?
