Paris, June 30, 2012 – From rabid beasts to war motifs, some of Riccardo Tisci’s latest menswear collections have had a tendency of going a little apocalyptic on us. Vatican chic? The Givenchy Spring/Summer 2013 Collection is peppered with Shroud of Turin styled prints with imagery of the Virgin Mary in place of Jesus Himself. The Catholic inspiration didn’t end there. Religion met fashion as alter boy and priests’ robes were reinterpreted into contemporary looks. Paired with funked up monk sandals, the result was actually quite good.
Duchesse satin, brocade, organza, and moiré were interesting fabric choices for menswear, yet Tisci clearly made them work. There’s no doubt that printed work will be a hit next spring/summer, but we shouldn’t let it distract us from the incredible tailoring found in those amazing pink, white and black suits.
