Scrubs in the City Presents: Secret Garden

Scrubs in the City 2012Toronto, June 8, 2012 – The Hospital for Sick Kids Foundation promised a night of intrigue and a maze of enchantment for last night’s fundraiser and they delivered – except for the maze. Honestly, I looked everywhere and no maze. Secret Garden was the theme for this year’s event held in the city’s awe-inspiring Evergreen Brickworks. Nestled in the Don Valley, by day this rejuvenated heritage space is a community environmental centre that inspires and equips visitors to live, work and play more sustainably. I can’t help but ask, why don’t they use the place for offsite fashion shows? It would be perfect.

Toronto’s socialites attended in droves sampling the delicious cocktails and savoury culinary delights care of Pusateri’s. As if the people watching wasn’t enough, an aerial acrobatics show, dance party featuring DJ Danny Floh Back and live performance by Shawn Desman provided attendees with entertainment. I haven’t seen so many designer bags and shoes since I last stumbled into the women’s accessories department at Harrods. So many beautiful women, where have they all been hiding?

Over the past 10 years, Scrubs in the City has been an advocate for The Hospital for Sick Children and has raised more than $1.7 million. This year, Secret Garden supports the new work to improve the hospital’s Urgent Care Unit. As the winner of the Strellson Pedal-Off, I had the chance to donate $3,500 to Sick Kids on behalf of Strellson and see the proposed work in the Urgent Care Unit through a staff guided tour. Big thanks to the staff for inviting us to cover the event. For event photos please see the gallery below.
