Toronto, May 26, 2012 – Swiss fashion label Strellson held a preview of their Fall/Winter 2012 Sportswear and Premium Menswear Collections at The Bay last Friday. The media preview was followed by a media Pedal-Off for Charity challenge held in retailer’s display window on the corner of Yonge & Queen. Competitors from Toronto’s top print, TV and online media companies competed in a 2km (1 and 1/4 mile) sprint on specially designed Strellson Bianchi bikes. Not only was It’s All Style To Me invited to compete, but I finished first winning $3,500 from Strellson for my charity: The Sick Kids Foundation. My heat mate Leslie Roberts of Global News finished in second and Tony Felgueiras from TORO Magazine in third, both winning cash for their charities as well. Click here to see Global TV’s event coverage in the evening news (fast forward to the 41 minute mark).
The Pedal Challenge continues from May 25th – June 17th where people can enter for a chance to pedal for a chance to WIN a Bianchi bike and a Strellson shopping spree, worth $3,200. People can enter the challenge in the Strellson shop on the second floor of The Bay Queen Street or online at www.strellsonpedalchallenge.com.
Strellson’s Sportwear line is looking very impressive for FW12. Probably the best we’ve seen yet. Urbanity, internationalism and Swiss tradition form the foundation of a pared down collection that focuses on wearable versatile pieces that you’ll get a lot of use out of. Prints look great subtle, patterns minimalist and checks tone-on-tone with the odd burst of colour. Very in-line with a lot of the menswear collections for FW12.
A mix of figure-hugging and loose-fitting styles look great together. Water-resistance, reversibility, detachable hoods and collars, and removable linings make for a very Swiss collection. The devil, clearly in the details as decorative zippers, new fastenings, clasps and toggles, cords and cord stoppers, braids and piping provide hardware accents. Look for the outerwear, especially the luxurious leather pieces. The denim and sweaters are also very nice.
Strellson’s Premium FW12 collection’s Deep Surface theme is lost on us, but nevertheless it too is very nice. Beautifully tailored slim suits in lightweight yet rugged material are a Strellson hallmark, but it doesn’t end there. Strellson’s design team experiment with microfabrics, metallic effects and a variety of treatments and finishes for a modern twist on classics. Think high-quality, traditional fabrics in a masculine character such as tweeds, velvets, jerseys, wool/mohairs, and wool/silks mixed with prints, coatings, and technical elements.
Single and double-breasted suits and jackets, 2 and 3-button blazers, turn-up and pleat-front trousers ensure that Strellson has something for everyone next season. Highlights of the FW12 Premium Collection include the oversized handbags, patterned diamond and textured finish suits as well as the beautiful classic outerwear. The double-dyed deep black capsule collection also warrants a close look. These guys just keep getting better. Check out the complete FW12 lookbook in the gallery below.
