Toronto, May 10, 2012 – H&M has taken a fashion step forward for Fall/Winter 2012, in a collection that is anchored in minimalist sleek and sculptural looks for women and sharp tailoring for men. They’ve capitalized on key FW12 trends by incorporating metallics, glitter and embellishments into many of next season’s pieces. The women’s collection in particular is very strong. Look for texture everywhere from bouclé sweatshirts to oversized cable-knit cardigans, skirts, jackets, and decorative sweaters. There are too many hits to list. The embellished sweater may be a bit much and that harness-looking vest outright bizarre – but that skirt is sure to sell out in no time. A skirt that appears to made from metallic gold space foil is another favourite as are the quilted pieces and that beautiful sequinned dress. Some great accessories available for FW12 that include costume jewellery bracelets, pearl necklaces, belts, eyewear, and drop earrings. They’ll likely pale in comparison to what Anna Dello Russo will be putting out.
The menswear is a bit more reserved. The L.O.G.G. line this season just doesn’t appeal to us. But then again, it rarely does. FW12 comes down to a select few pieces that are very very good. Slim lapelled 1960s two-button suits in bottle green, cobalt blue and Bordeaux red simply rock as an ensemble or broken down into separates. A beautiful eggplant/plum double-breasted peacoat for only $129? You gotta be kidding us. It could only be trumped by a brilliant bold red overcoat for $149. Then there’s that printed Prada-esque green dress shirt…at $34.95 it’ll be gone in no time. One shouldn’t overlook the great selection of ties, bow ties and colour popping leather gloves as well. Definitely a lot of great stuff to choose from next season. Very impressed with their collection. One of the more daring, well thought out fall/winter collections from the Swedish fast-fashion powerhouse.
