Gucci’s Dark Romanticism Women’s Fall/Winter 2012

Frida Giannini called her Gucci Fall/Winter 2012 Collection ‘the perfect expression of the Gucci woman’. The mood for next season is dark. If you’ve followed the FW12 men’s collections then this direction shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Gucci’s 19th century dark romanticism celebrates oversized coats, long dresses, tapestry, and fluid belted jackets. Opulent fabrics such as velvet, jacquard and brocade are light and airy for a collection that is structured yet soft, powerful yet playful and very sophisticated. How well will Giannini’s new dark goddess of romanticism translate to consumers? Let’s wait and see.
