David and Phillipe Blond designed an awe-inspiring glamazon Fall/Winter 2012 Collection show at Milk Studios during New York Fashion Week. Perennial favourites of iconic contemporary celebrities and pop stars, their client list includes Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Lil’ Kim, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. Inspired by the female anti-hero from the animated film Heavy Metal (1981/2000), the vintage biker chic meets 1990s Thierry Mugler collection was one of the most intense the duo have created.
Hair by Bumble & Bumble, make-up by MAC, jewellery by nOir, and footwear care of Christian Louboutin – how could one go wrong? Throw in some futuristic Evolve motorcycles with matching blond pony-tail warrior custom laser cut helmets (accessorized by Max Steiner Design who also did the ‘Playboy’ masks for SS12) and you’re definitely not in Kansas anymore.
The silver spiked and jewel-encrusted motorcycle jackets were topped only by jewel-encrusted corsets and a pavé leopard leather dresses. A tribute to Michael Jackson, look #8 was named the Thriller Corset Dress. The embroidered patch vest added some playfulness to the collection with the gold chain print jumper catapulting us into the Gagasphere.
New for FW12 – menswear! We didn’t see it coming. The looks were strong enough to open the show and a bejewelled red motorcycle jacket with Mongolian fur detail and male red and gunmetal chain corset stunned the crowd including Lil’ Kim, Adam Lambert, Robert Verdi, Jay Manuel, Patrick McDonald, and Cassie (front row). If only Elvis and Liberace could see this.
