Mercedes-Benz just launched their campaign for one of our favourite new sports cars, the SL Roadster. The company’s latest project merges the world of fashion and automobiles pairing Mercedes up with Dutch goddess Lara Stone dressed in Calvin Klein Collection (what else?). We had a chance to see the new SL firsthand at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month. As amazing as it looked then, it’s incredible to see it shot by Alex Prager in the Californian desert. The short ‘film’, is less than two-minutes and looks like a slow motion sequence out of a remade Hitchcock movie. According to Prager, it’s a mix of Mary Poppins meets the Wizard of Oz and there’s even a touch of James Bond.

The work of Prager emphasizes her passion for the traditional style of Hollywood. The surrealist aspect of the atmosphere is reinforced by the sophistication of the Mercedes SL – an aesthetic representation of its dynamism and its power. Prager mentioned that the original concept was to lift the car up with her and have them spinning around in the tornado, but Mercedes didn’t go for it. Rain and a storm provided a naturally mysterious ambience but also posed a big challenge for everyone. Although Lara has struck countless poses over the course of her modelling career, being carried away by a tornado while suspended from wires is one that won’t be forgotten.
