Duran Duran’s latest music video for Girl Panic! reunites some of the 1990’s biggest supermodels in what could very well be the last time we see them all together – like this. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund (Lady Gaga, Telephone), the video features a tad less product placement and more skin as Supers Naomi Campbell (plays lead singer Simon Le Bon), Helena Christensen (Roger Taylor), Eva Herzigova (Nick Rhodes), Cindy Crawford (John Taylor) and the model I’ve been most in love with since I was a kid – Yasmin Le Bon, prance around in sexy lingerie, leather, fur, glossy lipstick, and stilettos to Duran Duran.
The girls play the boys and the boys play reporters interviewing their female supermodel alter-egos, as well as photographers, and hotel staff. Tones of Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2011 and George Michael’s Freedom 90 come together in a video shot at London’s posh Savoy Hotel. Styled by Dolce & Gabbana, the concept is clever. The lesbian S&M and champagne bits look contrived and weak making it more into a cheesy spoof than anything (aren’t most of these ladies moms?). That may very well have been the point. At nearly ten minutes in length, the video runs a bit long. It’s great however, to see these beautiful glammed up icons delivering those witty interview responses to the annoying questions that have tormented the band for years.
