Amsterdam-based fashion label Scotch & Soda have been around since the mid-1980s. If you’ve heard of them, it’s probably only been in the past decade where they’ve taken on a new direction and reinvention of the brand. Today’s Scotch & Soda is a burgeoning international fashion label producing women’s, men’s, and children’s apparel with a casual, vintage-influenced, contemporary Parisian feel. Think European version of Abercrombie & Fitch with creative direction by John Varvatos.
Although they already have a store in the west end’s Sherway Gardens, the Toronto Eaton Centre is the first downtown location for the Dutch fashion house. They’ve been open since early August and last night Scotch & Soda held their official launch party. The brand’s vision comes across both in the apparel and the meticulously styled interior design of the store. From vintage wooden furniture to the decorative authentic antique decor – every detail is accounted for. I like Scotch & Soda and raved about their beautiful designer sweatpants in a post last winter. For men, look for their reasonably priced sports jackets, denim jeans, and plaid dress shirts. The accessories in general are also a very strong point of their collection.
Two more stores will open soon in Canada giving Albertans in Edmonton and Calgary a chance to shop. Scotch & Soda currently holds over 30 standalone retail stores worldwide, with more than 7,000 other sales points and an online store.
