Montréal Fashion Week (Sept. 6-9) may be small by international standards, but its strength is in the great local design talent and governmental support from their Department of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade. Situated less than an hour’s flight from New York City and being breathtakingly beautiful, Montréal is an easy sell to international buyers and media. Especially when most are already planning a visit to the general vicinity for New York Fashion Week (Sept. 8-15). Convincing them to come back to Toronto in late October – another story.
In collaboration with P&G Beatuy & Grooming and held at the Marché Bonsecours, Old Montréal, the 21st Montréal Fashion Week hosts a lineup of leading unconventional, unabashed, and unparalleled designs. Groupe Sensation Mode, producer of MFW for the past six years, pushes the envelope even further this time around – putting extra emphasis on the fresh, new, cutting-edge talents that inspire us with their intrepid interpretations of style.
“Since Groupe Sensation Mode first took charge of Montréal Fashion Week six years ago, we’ve continuously highlighted the boundless creativity and leading-edge design of our national talents and international guests through the programming we present,” states Jean-Francois Daviau, co-founder of Groupe Sensation Mode. “We’re proud to be delivering an exceptional schedule of forward-thinking designers once again this season. We’ve succeeded in producing a tailor-made Fashion Week where national and international press and buyers can come to discover the uniqueness and authenticity of our fashion designers.”
With avant-garde attitude as its theme, MFW Spring/Summer 2012 Collections will include top Canadian designers such as my friend Denis Gagnon, Dimitri Chris, Soïa & Kyo, Mulcair, DUY, and many others.
